7-Eleven Now In EV Charging Business With 7Charge – CleanTechnica

Everyone, their mother, and their dog can see that the auto industry is electrifying. That includes oil companies (like shell) and gas stations & convenience stores (like 7-Eleven). Regarding the latter, the news this week is that 7-Eleven has launched its own EV charging network! The name of that charging network is 7Charge.

The first stations in the 7Charge network are in Florida, Texas, Coloradoand California — and they’re already operational.

The stations each include CCS and CHAdeMO charging options.

“For over 95 years, 7-Eleven has innovated to meet our customers’ needs – delivering convenience where, when and how they want it,” said Joe DePinto, President and Chief Executive Officer at 7-Eleven. “Now, we are innovating once again to meet our customers’ where they are by expanding our business to provide EV drivers the convenience of the future … today.”

Naturally, 7Charge comes with an app as well. You can download from the App Store or google playor by visiting 7-eleven.com/7charge.

The company also hints at expanding access and improving equity in the EV charging world with its move. “By expanding the 7Charge network, while continuing to utilize third-party fast-charging network options, 7-Eleven will have the ability to grow its network to match consumer demand and make EV charging available to neighborhoods that have, until now, lacked access. .”

Across the United States and Canada, 7-Eleven has more than 13,000 stores or franchise locations.

Unfortunately, 7-Eleven gave very little in the way of details. But another quote from the company indicates that it intends to grow its network to a very large scale. “Once the network’s expansion is complete, 7-Eleven will have one of the largest and most compatible fast-charging networks of any retailer in North America serving communities and customers at charging stations across its entire family of brands including Speedway and Stripes stores.” We’ll see!

Again, we got very little in terms of details from 7-Eleven. That’s essentially all the news we have for now.

I don’t like paywalls. You don’t like paywalls. Who likes paywalls? Here at CleanTechnica, we implemented a limited paywall for a while, but it always felt wrong — and it was always tough to decide what we should put behind there. In theory, your most exclusive and best content goes behind a paywall. But then fewer people read it! We just don’t like paywalls, and so we’ve decided to ditch ours.

Unfortunately, the media business is still a tough, cut-throat business with tiny margins. It’s a never-ending Olympic challenge to stay above water or even perhaps — gasp grow. So …
