What is your name?
My name is Alice Mezzetti, musically known as Still Alice.

What is your genre of music?
I could say my music is a mix of indie pop, sometimes pop rock, with chill tendencies.

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a 22 years old, Italian singer/songwriter from Ancona, a small city in the center of Italy, but now based in Bologna for university.

What made you go into music?
I started playing the guitar when I was 9 years old and I started taking singing lessons when I was about 15/16. I also took some piano lessons for two years. I can’t really say that my family has had a big impact on my musical upbringing but I guess that the creative part of myself could come from my mom (she is a theater major). She also went to a lot of concerts when she was younger and has the craziest stories, and just hearing about them made me fall in love with the idea of a live musical performance and that brings us to my obsession with Michael Jackson. I used to watch all of his music videos (still do) and every live performance he’s ever done. It was just mesmerizing. I used to imitate his dance moves and I guess he’s one of the reasons I also started dancing (I’ve been taking Hip Hop classes for 8/9 years). Even though I’m Italian, I’ve always been inspired by songs in English. I love English as a language, I love how it sounds and I love the musical structure that comes from it. But the fact that it’s not my first language, it made me feel very insecure about my writing. Thankfully I got better at it, but I know that I could do a lot better.

Who are your influences?
My musical influences have changed a lot throughout the years. There are a lot of artists that I admire for different reasons and that really inspire the way I look at music. Inside the mainstream musical world I have to mention Harry Styles and Taylor Swift, two of the biggest stars in the world that deeply care about their fans because they know how much their music means to us. I’ve been obsessed with Lizzy McAlpine for years, and now that she’s getting the recognition she deserves, I can say that I was there from the beginning. I love her songwriting style so much that sometimes I get jealous of her talent.
The Driver Era is also a huge influence. I love their sound and watching them live was a confirmation of their talent. I also have to mention The 1975, Kehlani, Julia Michaels, Sam Fender and Bazzi.

Are you a signed?
I’m an independent artist but my single “Desiderium” was distributed by an independent record label based in Bologna, Synth Tonic Records.

You released your new single ’24h’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
“24h” is a song that describes the monotony that comes from your every day life. I think I started writing it after a night out in the same spot I hang out with my friends every weekend, and I guess I just realized how we were always doing the same things.
I also love to compare the relationship one could have with the city where you live and the relationship one could have with another person. It’s a lot about feeling lost and stuck, the fear of not belonging somewhere or with someone and the constant waiting for something to change.

Describe the track in two words.
Spacey, melancholic.

What was the writing and recording process like?
I was just messing around with my producer in the studio and I played the guitar riff that you hear at the beginning of the song. Then we started working on the production around it. We were really inspired by the mood and the sound of “I got you” by Bazzi.
After this 4 hour session I started writing the lyrics over what we had and within two weeks we had the whole song. This was back in December 2021. We, me and my producer, always pick a day where we only work on recording the vocals. We had the whole thing ready in mid-January.

Who did you work with on the single?
“24h” was actually the first song I worked on with my producer EXA (Andrea Antognetti). We came up with the idea for “24h” during our first session together. We met through my roommates, and our love for music came up accidentally and we decided to meet up and give it a try. It all worked out for the best and this is the third single that we released together.

Will we see a music video for ’24h’ and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
I’d love to do a music video! Also because I’ve always had a specific idea for it in mind. I always imagined the first shot with a person that’s going to sleep and next to them a led alarm clock showing the number 24 (it’s midnight) and then suddenly the clock would show that it’s 8 in the morning and another day has started. The whole music video should be a succession of days spent always doing the exact same things. It’s basically a way to show how it’s so easy to fall into the monotony of your everyday life.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
I’ve always thought about the idea of releasing an EP but I want to have a solid concept and vision before jumping into the creative process. I also talked with my producer about the possibility of releasing an acoustic EP, including the acoustic versions of my released singles and also of the unreleased ones. For now it’s just an idea but who knows.

What else can we expect in 2022 and early 2023?
I’m always working on new music and there’s definitely a new single coming out soon.
The main goal is to play my music live as much as possible, starting on the 12th of January with a show in Bologna, Italy. I’ll be playing my released singles and some unreleased ones, some acoustic versions of the songs and a special cover of “As it was” by Harry Styles. I’m really excited!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 years?
This is what I always wanted to do and it’s what makes me the happiest, just making music and performing. I really hope that I’ll get the opportunity to make music outside of Italy and expand my musical knowledge as well as meeting new people that share the same passion.
I don’t know if it will happen for me, because there are a lot of amazing and talented artists out there, but one can dream.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
I’m not the most positive person in the world and I tend to imagine how things could be different, better. It’s like I’m always daydreaming. I’m also a big musical/movie musical fan so I think that “Here’s to the fools who dreamfrom La La Land sums up pretty well how I feel.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
I guess before a live performance I need to warm up my voice, do some stretching, drink water, listen to other music to calm my nerves and make sure everything is in order before the show starts.
