World summits’ ‘circle of relatives footage’ display Putin’s isolation

They’re referred to as “family photos,” the pictures of worldwide leaders posed in fake leisure throughout world summits.

And like portraits of a circle of relatives that has remoted a dysfunctional member, contemporary “family photos” from the G7 and G8 — the arena’s maximum industrialized countries — display how Russian President Vladimir Putin has been an outcast.

The Russian president has confronted extraordinary world isolation since his country invaded Ukraine in February 2022. An International Criminal Court arrest warrant hangs over his head and clouds his possibilities of touring to many locations, together with the ones seen as Moscow’s allies.

It was once simplest 10 years in the past when Putin stood proudly amongst his friends on the time — former US President Barack Obama, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and previous Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe — at a Group of Eight summit in Northern Ireland. But Russia has since been kicked out of the gang, which is composed of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the United States, for illegally annexing Crimea in 2014.

Images from the G7 summit this 12 months display leaders of the similar governments, minus Putin.
