Arunachal win 7 medals in National Weightlifting Championships

RONO HILLS, 30 Dec: Arunachal Pradesh gained seven medals, together with one gold, one silver and 5 bronze, on the second day of the IWLF National Senior, Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships at Rajiv Gandhi University right here on Saturday.

Shankar Lapung gained the gold medal within the senior males’s 61 kg interstate division. He lifted 121 kgs in snatch and 150 kgs in clear & jerk, for a complete of 271 kgs. Lapung additionally gained the general bronze medal within the males’s senior 61 kg class.

The silver medal within the interstate division was gained by one other lifter from the state, Charu Pesi. He lifted 117 kgs in snatch and 148 kgs in clear & jerk, for a complete of 265 kgs.

The bronze medal on this class (interstate) was gained by Assam’s Siddhartha Gogoi, with a complete carry of 261 kgs.

Sosar Tama gained a bronze medal every within the youth and junior boys’ 55 kg body weight class. Tama lifted 93 kgs in snatch and 120 kgs in clear & jerk in each youth and junior classes.

Tagrik Naya gained the bronze medal within the junior girls’s 45 kg class. She lifted a complete of 128 kgs (snatch 56 kgs; clear & jerk 72 kgs).

Chera Tania gained the fifth bronze medal within the junior males’s 61 kg class. Tania lifted 102 kgs in snatch and 139 kgs in clear & jerk.

Over 900 lifters and 200 officers from all of the states and union territories, together with Services, the All India Police Sports Control Board, the Railway Sports Control Board, and the Food Corporation of India are taking part within the championships.

Arunachal has fielded a complete of 41 athletes, together with ace lifters Sambo Lapung, Kojum Taba, Markio Tario, and Soram Hitler Tagru, within the championships, which can conclude on 8 January.

This is the second time that Arunachal is internet hosting a nationwide weightlifting championship. It had hosted the nationwide senior weightlifting championships in 2011.

Meanwhile, competitors director Subramanya Kumbasi, who can be the chairman of the technical committee of the Indian Weightlifting Federation, instructed this reporter that the way forward for weightlifting in Arunachal is vibrant, including that “many lifters from the state have already represented the nation in numerous worldwide occasions.”
