‘Kisan putra’ Jagdeep Dhankhar takes oath as India’s 14th Vice-President

National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate and previous West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar took oath because the 14th Vice-President of India on Thursday, August 11. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath on the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

On August 6, Jagdeep Dhankhar used to be elected because the Vice-President after defeating the Opposition’s Margaret Alva. Dhankhar won 528 votes, defeating joint opposition candidate Alva, who were given 182 votes. Fifteen votes had been declared invalid.

Former VP Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla and different parliamentarians attended the development. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) skipped the oath taking rite of Dhankar.

Before taking the oath, Dhankar visited Raj Ghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
